ReRoofs: The team will strip the existing pitched roof, Dispose of the materials into the skip, update the roof with the following materials: Breathable Felt, Pressure treated BS5534 factory graded roofing battens, Tile with your chosen new tiles, Eaves Protection System, Dry Verges, Dry Valleys and Dry Ridge Systems, New Ridges, Lead: Flashings, aprons, gutters and soakers for the chimneys. Repair or replace a roof can only be made after a roof inspection.

Slipped tiles, nail sickness, mortar missing from the ridges, slipped ridges, rotten lath, lead flashing missing, missing felt or no breathable felt may be a reason for a new maintenance free roof…

Nail sickness: A term which applies to nails that have run their course, causing slates to become unsecured and potentially dangerous, the main cause of tile and slate slippages and subsequent leaks.

Rotten timber

Pre-1940 homes, most of the timber battens/laths were not pressure treated or impregnated with any sort of protection. British standard 5534 lath/battens are now pressure treated.

Frost damage and Porous tiles

Most roof coverings have a determined life expectancy as set by the manufacturer. These should be adhered to and a common sense approach should be applied when repairing old roofs way past their designated life expectancy. Early indications of such issues may be: Porous concrete tiling problems when the tiles are turned over, and extensive frost damage and delamination to clay and slate tiles.

Maintenance of Concrete Roofing

Unless properly sealed, concrete tiled roofs are often subject to water leakage which can eventually cause rot in the roof. They are also prone to the unsightly propagation of algae and moss, which, whilst not immediately damaging to the integrity of the structure, can cause problems if left unattended, and will need to be power washed from the surface from time to time.
Though extremely strong and durable, especially when reinforced, concrete tiles can suffer from the same issues of nail sickness and unforeseen damage that can cause the roof to become unstable and potentially dangerous.
